“Full Circle” documents the struggle and pride of Istanbul’s transgender community. With a rising conservatism and more publicly expressed intolerance toward the LGBTT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transvestite, transgender), the heroes of this story risk violence to meet their basic needs, in a society which still struggles with their own identity. The night scenes of Tarlabashi, a decrepit neighborhood in Istanbul, Turkey, contribute to these portraits, where transgender persons’ only employment option is as sexworkers – in clubs, brothels and on the streets. All the while, dreaming of having their families and society accepting them for who they are.
